Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen DinhPhien, Rector of Vietnam Customs School, said that amid the Covid-19 pandemic, online training has become more urgent. The school asked the Trade Facilitation Project to consider and fund the development of the LMS and the project has been approved.

Accordingly, the school has worked with the Trade Facilitation Project to embark on developing an online training system by launching a training course on how to build online lectures for the school's lecturers so that they will directly design online lessons in the future.

According to the representative of Vietnam Customs School, after developing the system, the school piloted it before it was officially put into use to train customs officers in 2021. In particular, the first lessons were designed by the school’s lecturers.

Commenting at the seminar, Mr. Claudio Dordi, Director of the Trade Facilitation Project emphasized: “Across all areas, we understand that capacity building plays an essential role in developing important skills for customs officers. We intend to not only use traditional training methods but also online training methods. In fact, online training does not abolish traditional training, but it increases value to training in general. In the near future, we will build a program to train management leadership skill for leaders of the General Department of Customs with the combination between online training and traditional training.”

Speaking at the seminar, Deputy Director General Hoang Viet Cuong emphasized that, for the LMS to develop and be put into operation successfully, bring maximum efficiency and help customs officers and the business community have a new learning method to improve their abilities anywhere, anytime and especially be effective amid the Covid-19 pandemic that has not yet been controlled, Vietnam Customs School and Department of Personnel organization need to specify the training program and re-plan the program to put it into practice in the future.
