Over 5 million containers are managed via the Automated System for Seaport Customs management

According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, the Automated System for seaport Customs management is implemented at 4 Customs departments, including Hai Phong, Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh city and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
Of which, Hai Phong Customs Department has deployed at 4 Customs branches with the participation of 53 warehouses, yards and seaport operators. Ha Noi Customs Department has deployed at Noi Bai International Airport with the participation of 3 enterprises; Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department has deployed at 4 Customs Branches with 4 enterprises; Ba Ria-Vung Tau Customs Department has deployed at 4 Customs Branches with 14 enterprises.
According to the statistics of Customs IT and Statistics Department (the General Department of Vietnam Customs), as of the end of May 2018, at Hai Phong Customs Department, the system has handled 2.35 million containers in, and 2,24 million out; 20.6 million packages in and 19.7 million packages out. At Ha Noi Customs Department, the system has handled 8.1 million packages in and 4.2 million packages out. At Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department, the system has handled 56,400 containers in and 50,100 containers out, 93,800 packages in and 47,300 packages out. At Ba Ria- Vung Tau Customs Department, the system has handled 160,300 containers in and 153,000 containers out, 1.3 million packages in and 355 packages out.
Hence, the total number of containers which have been handled via the system is 5.01 million and a dozen million packages.
The General Department of Vietnam Customs assessed that the system brought benefits to warehouse, yard and seaport operators and importers and exporters, such as the Customs authority was provided fully, accurately and promptly informed (in e-form) on the information on goods expected to arrive to warehouses, yards and seaports (through Manifest), and goods cleared (through declaration and relevant documents).

On the other hand, the automation in port operation has contributed to reducing cost and increasing operating capacity and competitiveness. At the same time, publicizing the management process; Taking initiative in managing, accounting and storing documents and books; reducing the cost of managing, summarizing and reporting on goods in, out and stored, in Customs supervision area; reducing procedures and etc.
In addition, the system has helped the Customs authority to strengthen the capacity of managing and supervising of goods in and out of warehouses, yards and ports, thus contributing to improving national competitiveness.
