Preliminary assessment of Vietnam international merchandise trade performance in the first half of January, 2023

The Vietnam Customs Statistics announced that in the first half (01-15/1/2023) of January-2023, Vietnam’s total exports of US dollars 14,5 billion and imports of US dollars 13,76 billion resulted in a trade surplus of US dollars 735 million. Accordingly, the total value of export and import turnover of Vietnam in the first half of January was US dollars 28,26 billion, down by 0.8% as compared to the second half of December-2022.

The Vietnam Customs Statistics announced that in the first half (01-15/1/2023) of January-2023, Vietnam’s total exports of US dollars 14,5 billion and imports of US dollars 13,76 billion resulted in a trade surplus of US dollars 735 million. Accordingly, the total value of export and import turnover of Vietnam in the first half of January was US dollars 28,26 billion, down by 0.8% as compared to the second half of December-2022.

In the view of FDI traders, in the first half of January, the total value of FDI merchandise trade went down by 0.5% to US dollar 20.19 billion as compared to the same period of 2022.

Export:

When compared with the second half of December-2022, export of first half of January decreased by 5.3%, mostly as a result of the downturn registered in computer electrical products and part thereofs (down by 28.5% - USD 733 million); machine, tools and equipments (down by 17.3% - USD 359 million); wood and wooden products (down by 20.2% - USD 148 million).

Import:

Imports of the first half of January up by 4.4% as compared the second half of December, mainly reflecting the upturn in computer electrical products and part thereofs (up by 39.6% - USD 1.1 billion); crude oil (up by 157.8% - USD 257 millions); petroleum products (up by 70.2% - USD 223 million)...
