At the meeting, the Director General of the General Department of Vietnam Customs, Mr. Nguyen Van Can noted the support of Australian Customs in the field of technique; foreign language training; and in-depth training in the prevention of crime and smuggling.
Under the agreement signed in 2011, the two sides have been actively exchanging Customs intelligence, which has enhanced cooperation between Australia Customs and Vietnam Customs, especially the Hanoi Department of Customs and the HCM City Department of Customs in the prevention and fight against cross-border drugs. Also, in the forum of the World Customs Organization (WCO), Vietnam Customs has received the support in technique from Australia Customs.
On the business trip of Australia Customs, the Director General, Mr. Nguyen Van Can has desired the two sides to continue to promote cooperation in the coming period. Specifically, the Director General, Mr. Nguyen Van Can has requested Australia Customs to continue to support Vietnam Customs in foreign language scholarship programs, training of specialists in combating smuggling and commercial fraud and exchange of information.
Every year, the two sides exchange information and carry out cooperation activities, striving to upgrade the agreement on Customs cooperation to the level of Government cooperation.
Agreeing with the view, the Australian Border Force Commissioner, Mr. Roman Quaedvlieg stated that the Australian Border Force perform the tasks of trade promotion and protection of people. These are difficult tasks with the increase of terrorism.
In order to accomplish these tasks, Australia Customs regularly changes and reforms Customs procedures, build its National Single Window, and Australia Customs takes the lead.
