Preliminary assessment of Vietnam international merchandise trade performance in the first half of July, 2016

VCN-The Vietnam Customs Statistics announced that in the first half (01-15/7/2016) of  July-2016, Vietnam’s total exports of  US dollars 7.21 billion and imports  of  US dollars 7.3 billion resulted in a trade deficit of nearly US dollars 87 million. 

Accordingly, the total value of export and import turnover of Vietnam in the first half of July was US dollars 14.51 billion, went down by 4% (equal to USD 605 million) as compared to the second half of June-2016.

Vietnam‘s trade-in-goods from January to the first half of July of 2016 totaled US dollars 177 billion in value terms. It posted a growth of 2.8% (equivalent to USD 4.85 billion) from the same period of previous year. In which, the total merchandise export value was up 6.5% to US dollars 89.3 billion and the total merchandise imports value was down 0.7%, to US dollars 87.7 billion.

In the view of Foreign Direct Invested (FDI) traders, the value of exportation and importation in the first half of July reached USD 4.93 billion and USD 4.3 billion respectively. From January to July 15th of 2016, the total export value of FDI traders went up 9.8% to US dollar 62.25 billion, which accounted for 69.7% of Vietnam’s total exports. In the meanwhile, import value was posted at USD 51.39 billion, down by 1.8% and accounted for 58.6%.

Export:

When compared with the second half of June-2016, export of first half of July decreased by 6.2%, mostly as a result of the decline registered in: irons and steels (down by USD 59 million); precious stones, precious metal and articles thereof (down by USD 35 million); chemical (down by USD 16 million); coal (down by USD 3 million)… However, the following commodities climbed up in export value: fruits and vegetables (up by USD 26 million); rubber (up by USD 12 million); clinker and cement (up by USD 6 million)…

Import:

In the first half of July 2016, import decreased by 1.7% when compared with second half of June, mainly reflecting the shrunk of soya bean (down by USD 7 million); other means of transport (down by USD 36 million); liquefied petroleum gas (down by USD 14 million); ores and other mineral products (down by USD 16 million)…

Increase occurred in imports of animal fodders and animal fodder materials (up by USD 53 million); still image, video cameras and parts thereof (up by USD 16 million); tobacco materials (up by USD 5 million)…
