Preliminary assessment of Vietnam international merchandise trade performance in the second half of November, 2021

The Vietnam Customs Statistics announced that in the second half of November, 2021 the total Vietnam’s exports of US dollars 17.2 billion and imports of nearly US dollars 15.53 billion resulted in a trade surplus of US dollars 1.67 billion. Accordingly, the total value of export and import turnover of Vietnam in the second half of November was over US dollars 32.73 billion, up by 10.6% as compared to the first half of November-2021.

Furthermore, in the first 11 months of 2021, Vietnam was in trade surplus of USD 1.46 billion.

Vietnam‘s trade-in-goods in the first 11 months of 2021 totaled US dollars 602 billion in value terms, up by 22.9% as compared to the performance of the same period of last year.

In the view of Foreign Direct Invested (FDI) traders, the total value of exportation and importation in the first 11 months of 2021 reached USD 417.71 billion, up by 25.3% in comparison to the same period of 2020.

Export:

As compared to the first half of November-2021, second half of the month increase in the total export value (17.8% - USD 2.59 billion equally) is reflected by upturn in telephones, mobile phones and part thereof (up by 28.1% - USD 659 million equally); computer, electrical products (up by 28.6% - USD 582 million equally); machine tools and equipments (up by 19.6% - USD 367 million); footwear (up by 30.6% - USD 209 million)…

Totally, in the first 11 months of 2021 total export value from Vietnam was USD 301.73 billion, up by 18.3% as compared to the same period of 2020 (equivalent to USD 46.76 billion in absolute value terms).

Import:

The first half to second half of November widen in the total of import value (3.7%) reflected upturn in telephones, mobile phones and part thereof (up by 13.9% - USD 152 million equally); computer, electrical products (up by 3.2% - USD 123 million equally); coal (up by 79.6% - USD 116 million equally)…

From January to second half of November-2021, total import value into Vietnam was USD 300.27 billion, went up by 27.9% as compared to the same period of 2020 (equivalent to USD 65.49 billion in absolute value terms).

According to trade statistics of Vietnam Customs, in February 2023, a 5.9% upwards in total external merchandise turnover of Vietnam was recorded as compared to the result of the last month. Exports went up US dollars 10.3%, to US dollars 26.05 billion and imports increased 1.3%, to US dollars 23.25 billion in terms of month-on-month basis. The Vietnam Customs Statistics announced that in the first half of February-2023, Vietnam’s total exports of US dollars 13.44 billion and imports of US dollars 12.38 billion resulted in a trade surplus of nearly US dollars 1.07 billion. Accordingly, the total value of export and import turnover of Vietnam in the second half of October was over US dollars 30.32 billion, up by 9.3% as compared to the first half of October. In 10 months of 2022, Vietnam was in trade surplus of USD 9.59 billion.
