Preliminary assessment of Vietnam international merchandise trade performance in the second half of September, 2019

The Vietnam Customs Statistics announced that in the second half of September, 2019 the total Vietnam’s exports of US dollars 12.71 billion and imports of nearly US dollars 11.36 billion resulted in a trade surplus of US dollars 1.35 billion. Accordingly, the total value of export and import turnover of Vietnam in the second half of September was US dollars 24.07 billion, up by 16.2% as compared to the first half of September-2019. Furthermore, in the first 9 months of 2019, Vietnam was in a trade surplus of USD 7.15 billion.

​Vietnam‘s trade-in-goods in the first 9 months of 2019 totaled US dollars 382.16 billion in value terms, climbed up by 8.4% as compared to the performance of the same period of last year.

In the view of Foreign Direct Invested (FDI) traders, the total value of exportation and importation in the first 9 months of 2019 reached USD 242.28 billion, up by 5.1% in comparison to the same period of 2018.

Export:

As compared to the first half of September-2019, second half of the month increase in the total export value (21.6% - USD 2.26 billion equally) is reflected by an upturn in computer, electrical products (up by 22.6% - USD 351 million equally); telephones, mobile phones (up by 13.1% - USD 327 million equally); textiles and garments (up by 18.2% - USD 238 million equally); machine, tools and equipments (up by 30.4% - USD 210 million equally)…

Totally, in the first 9 months of 2019 total export value from Vietnam was USD 194.65 billion, climbed up 8.4% as compared to the same period of 2018 (equivalent to USD 15.1 billion in absolute value terms).

Import:

The first half to the second half of September slight widen in the total of import value (10.7%) reflected an upturn in machine, tools and equipments (up by 11.9% - USD 165 million equally); telephones, mobile phones (up by 16.1% - USD 122 million); petroleum products (up by 89,3% - USD 111 million equally); fabrics (up by 15.3% - USD 72 millions)…

From January to second half of September-2019, total import value into Vietnam was USD 187.5 billion, went up by 8.4% as compared to the same period of 2018 (equivalent to USD 14.45 billion in absolute value terms).
