Customs force seized speedboats in April.

The department has issued a decision to sanction 295 administrative violations, increasing by 6% in the number of arrests, and decreasing by 30% in fines compared with the previous year.

In April, the working team of Customs Enforcement Team 2 and Hon Gai Border Gate Customs Department detected a wooden ship without a license plate operated by Mr. Pham Van Nam as the owner of the ship (residing in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh) for transporting 1,300 liters of gasoline in Hon Gac area in the sea area of Ha Long, Quang Ninh province.

During the inspection, Mr. Pham Van Nam could not present invoices and documents proving the legal origin of the above-mentioned gasoline.

Nam said that he bought the gasoline from a ship and did not remember the license plate and did not know the owner's name and phone number at Cua Van area on Ha Long Bay.

On April 7, the working team seized a high-speed boat with tonnage about 10 tons, installed four Mercuri machines with a capacity of 250HP.

The total capacity of the speedboat is 1,000 HP, cruising speed 40 knots/hour, with an estimated value of VND400 million.

According to the Department, it has strictly controlled the smuggling and illegal transportation of goods across the border. However, at some times, the activities have increased in the sea area, focusing on items in high demand such as medical equipment and supplies, medicine for Covid-19 prevention and control, and animal organs.

The local customs department has strengthened the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and illegal transportation of goods across the border, especially before, during and after the Lunar New Year; taking drastic measures to combat the smuggling of firecrackers, petroleum products, minerals, medical equipment and supplies, frozen goods temporarily imported for re-export, and goods deposited in bonded warehouses.

It has also improved the efficiency of international cooperation, as well as coordinated with other competent agencies in strictly controlling the area, arresting and handling violations.

As a standing body of the 389 Quang Ninh Steering Committee, the department has advised the local government to direct and coordinate with localities and member sectors to effectively prevent and combat smuggling, commercial fraud, counterfeit goods and drugs.
